Commitment to Youth

Our Commitment to Youth and Best Practices

The Heart Gallery of Greater Houston recognizes the profound responsibility that comes with advocating for children and youth in foster care through photographic listings and public storytelling. We understand the importance of representing young people in ways that honor their dignity while safeguarding their well-being.

Our work is grounded in a strong commitment to consent and informed participation. Youth who are able to provide consent are given an active voice in deciding whether and how they are represented. For children who are not of consenting age, we work closely with their legal caregivers and child welfare professionals to ensure all participation is appropriate, authorized, and centered on the child’s best interests.

The Heart Gallery of Greater Houston adheres to ethical storytelling standards and trauma-informed practices in every interaction. We strive to portray each young person with respect, accuracy, and care, avoiding narratives that sensationalize or diminish their experiences while highlighting their strengths, individuality, and right to connection. Our goal is to create pathways to permanency while upholding the highest standards of integrity, protection, and compassion for the youth we serve.

The Heart Gallery of Greater Houston remains committed to ethical engagement, trauma-informed practice, and the protection of children and youth.
